The dory will be discussed in a future instructable but thought it might be interesting to focus on how i constructed the ribs which are the heart and soul of the dory, or more properly, the skeleton of the dory which supports the entire rest of the boat.. Building a 16 ft. grand banks dory. i have spent a good amount of time looking at boat building plans, but with boats size does matter. later, who knows, i might build a 40 feet cabin cruiser, and tow my grand banks dory behind me. then, if my cabin cruises sinks, i can always row to safety in my grand banks dory, dry and with my clothes on.. 16 ft grand banks (banker) dory. boat particulars. 16 ft from stem to stern, 12 ft bottom. 3 ft bottom width, 5 ft beam. approx 24″ side height (depth), 2 inch keel rocker. approx 300 lb bare vessel, approx 1200 lb carrying capacity. suits one or two rowers, and modest outboard motor. flat bottom, single chine.
